Backlinks rule the world (…let’s just say that’s a fact) ..and they should be an important part of your marketing efforts. But, what’s even more important are Deeplinks.
I briefly touched on deep linking in yesterday’s post but I didn’t use the best example to explain the power it has. Blog commenting is a great “backlink building” strategy but not for building deeplinks.
Comments that have long URLs were placed in my SPAM folder for some weird reason (..let’s just blame it on wordpress)
So, Why Are Deeplinks So Cool?
Besides the fact that they make your SEO efforts look more “Natural” to the search engines..
- They reinforce your SEO because they contain keywords inside the URL
- They force Search Engines Bots to crawl deeper into your site and index more pages
- They provides shortcuts for your readers making your blog more user friendly
- They help drive more traffic because the users can find what they want a lot easier
- They help build your Main Page Rank because rank is being build from the inside out
Now that we understand what these ‘deeplinks‘ do.. how do we get them? LOTS of them!! There are many deep linking strategies, too many to cover in this post, so I’ll give you my favorites. (…A.K.A, the easiest)
My Favorite Deep Linking Strategies
First of all, you want to start linking to internal pages from your own blog (like I did in the beginning of this post). This not only creates deeplinks for search engine bots to crawl, but they also give your readers the opportunity to visit other posts that you want them to see.
Next, you want to start publishing your articles in different places, not just article directories. You can also go to forums, and Ning community sites and share your content there. The key is to first provide value and then place a link back to one specific post.
Last but not least, YouTube links. Everytime you create a Youtube video that you place inside a post, you should place a link at the very top of the video description. …and the link should point to that specific post – easy right?
This will make Google happy, but also - and much more important than Google – you get to keep more visitors on your site, because they’ll be more likely to browse your site, instead of closing the browser.
I hope you enjoyed this post.. if you did please share it, retweet it, digg it, and stumble it - I’d really appreciate it.
I’d love to hear your thoughts about deeplinking.. are you doing it.. is there anything you want to add? Tell me in the comments below..
Have a great one…

Thanks for the informative article. I would like to provide a tip. I track backlinks and the scores that they provide, and believe it or not Hubpages makes a quality high scoring backlink.
I was quite surprised with the results and now use it to build quality backlinks quickly.
TIP: They work if you don’t sign in, so comment as a guest.

Thanks for that tip. That’s a great backlink strategy. Using web 2.0 properties like Hubpages, Wetpaint, Squidoo etc.. will help your SEO efforts..
But I’ll definitely try HubPages as a guest.. and see how that goes,

Hi Hector,
This is an excellent post. Thank you for sharing about linking the internal links. I’ll remember that one and thanks for reminding me about placing the link to the post in the video description. I have done that before but forgot about that tip lately.

Hector man, when do you sleep ?
,download is ok,but my upload speed is soooo low, it takes all day to upload 3 minute video..Of course, I am gonna solve that challenge
I mean, I am active as well, but you are a blog monster!
Now this post was again soooo great, I didn’t see this information anywhere else… I am using everything from what you wrote except video linking – the reason is I am from Serbia, we don’t have western internet speed yet
Keep ‘feeding’ us with ‘caviar’ – your posts are the most quality food for us marketers!
Melena I have never tried something like this before but maybe something for you to check out. You say you have slow download speeds. Why not use a sharing program and find a friend in the US that Has high speed and make your videos from powerpoint or something like that , that you can share and have them upload it for you from here. Just a thought.
Thanks Ross, thats what I had in mind as well. I am gonna send it via e-mail and a friend will upload it and give me the link.. thanks for your concern.

Either way, I hope you solve it. I’ll keep providing the best I got.

Good Morning Hector,
These are all very good ways to build backlinks. I have used these methods and they do work great.I might also add spinning articles is also a good way to build backlinks and improve your Alexa rating in Google’s eyes.
Have a great day,
Anne
.-= Anne´s last blog ..What Is Your Financial “Plan B?” =-.
Hey Anne,
I have slightly different views when it comes to article spinning. In my experience.. sharing the same content on different sites has not been a problem for me at all. My Alexa ranking has shot down from the millions to 277,000 in less than 2 months of blogging and using these strategies.
Here’s the deal with duplicate content – Google cares about duplicate content when it’s on the same site and maybe on the same server. So I wouldn’t spent to much time spinning and rewriting articles.. – but then again, that’s just my experience.

Tristram Lodge

Definitely.. the related post do count as internal deeplinks to other posts. Having that plugin activated can be an extra way to keep people on your blog. But linking within your posts will get you the most clicks. – guaranteed

Hi Hector! This seems like a great way to increase SEO, I just have one question about an element you mentioned, and that is republishing your articles other places (like on Ning networks) – I have read over the years that decreases your SEO and PR because it is duplicate content – can you speak to this concern? Thanks!
Hey Nacie..
first of all thanks for stopping by.. now I’m just gonna copy & paste my reply to Anne which addresses this same issue.

Thanks Hector! So much value here, you are awesome! Now just to be sure I understand, the link I should use in a blog comment, either in the section requesting my website should be my home page to keep it out of the WP spam folder, and if in the comment body at all? Then any reference from article directories, social bookmarking or youTube use a specific post link. Right?
Thanks again for such great content as usual!
Vicki
.-= Vicki Berry´s last blog ..You Are Already Programming Your Mind – Let it Be for Success =-.
Hey Vicki,
Glad to see you here. & yes you got it.. when entering your website (in the website box) that should be your homepage because if it’s a long URL, it’ll end up in the spam folder. There shouldn’t be any links in the body of the comment because them the plugin will think it’s spam and also place that in the SPAM folder.
Any other link, from any other source should link to a long URL for all the reasons I mentioned above – I hope that cleared it up
Have a great one
Hector
Thanks Hector! I just wanted to be sure I was clear, this is great stuff! Now, I have another question that I’ve not had answered on the forums yet and that is that I had understood that submitting your ~own~ links on social bookmarking sites was not as favorable as having someone else submit the site. Although this is what we are doing with TUT in order that we can get the link to have shared, is there any validity to that? I read it first from Charles Heflin on SocialMediaScience.com some time back http://www.socialmediascience.com/social-media-marketing/social-bookmarking-tricky/ What do you think?
Thanks again!
Vicki
.-= Vicki Berry´s last blog ..You Are Already Programming Your Mind – Let it Be for Success =-.
Hey Vicki…
I read the article and he’s right about a couple things.. Having your content bookmarked by 10 different people, meaning manually bookmarked, (not just pressing the DIGG button) IS better for SEO purposes because the content shows up in ten different accounts. That makes perfect sense. NOW.. what I DON’T agree with is where he states that you CAN’T bookmark your own content because the search engines will de-index your pages from the search results – and the reason I don’t agree is because:
– I’m still showing up in the search engines when people Google my name
– I’m on page one for “MLM Business Blog” and
– My posts get indexed 2 hours after I publish them
..so this isn’t theory, or social media science – these are facts ………..and I like facts :0)
Now, you don’t wanna go nuts and start bookmarking all your content across 10 different sites all at once – because to them it just looks fishy.. The key is to be natural. Bookmarking your own stuff ONCE a day and having people “Digg It” is most definitely NOT An Issue..
I hope this answered your question..
Thanks so much Hector! I knew you’d have a great perspective on this, and I feel much better now! Your explanation agrees with what I had suspected, but I wanted to believe it was not just wishful thinking on my part. A measured approach, bookmarking in moderation, seems the way to go!
Appreciating You, You’re Awesome!
Vicki
Anytime Vicki

i would like to say thanks for this post…. fantastic job.
Lately I have been doing a lot of directory submissions to build up my backlinks. I write an article and then submit it to the following sites for approval: 1. Ezinearticles.com (constanly crawled by google) 2. Goarticles.com (huge site, lots of traffic) 3. Rysite.com (tweets articles + quick indexing) 4. Articlealley.com (easy to submit to) 5. buzzle.com (has a high PR and is very popular) By submitting articles to those sites, i have recieved a lot of traffic. Especially from rysite.com because i get traffic not only from my article, but they tweet it to a following based on your keyword and as a result I get traffic from twitter as well. Hope that helps!
nice post…. yeah ^_^ thanks
Brilliant tips for backlinks. You really post very articles Hector. Being a newbie to linkbuilding I’ve come across very important points on this post. SEO Links is a great plugin and every internet user should try to get find out more on SEO and SEO links.
Great post as Always Hector, I have discovered that article directories really help rankings and traffic especially the Alexa rankings.
About the deeplinking, I dont have much time for doing this but am using a plugin that auto links keywords in posts.
