How More SPAM And Crappy Products Will Help Us Succeed

Don’t throw anything at me, yet! Let me explain.

I’m gonna tell you why we need spam and why, the fact that people are buying crappy products, can ultimately lead to guaranteed success for us.

I was reading Predictably Irrational by Dan Ariely over the weekend and I gotta say, We are WEIRD.

We live in a world of relativity. The only way that we can actually KNOW the value of something is by comparing it to something else of the same category. For example, we don’t really know how good of a deal a vacation to Fiji is without comparing it to it’s original price.

The same way we can’t decide on buying a certain SEO product without comparing it to another SEO product with similar features. Relativity is everything.

This Is Why We Need More Spammers & Scammers

Without them, our prospects won’t have anything to distinguish the good guys from the bad. Without them spamming forums and social media with their links, good marketing wouldn’t stand out as much as it does.

It’s unfortunate that a lot of people get scammed. They buy products and never get what they were promised or, they get sold on the hype, only to find out they just bought another PLR product.

But think about..

Without that reality, we wouldn’t have a big list of things NOT to do when trying to build a business online. Knowing that hypey marketing and crappy products are out there,  makes consumers way more careful about giving someone their money.

Which, ultimately, makes our job a lot easier since being authentic and providing real value is all we need to do to stand out from all the noise.

But we gotta take it a step further..

You Need A Unique Selling Proposition..

Just like there are a lot of spammers and scammers online, there are also a lot of people doing it the RIGHT way. You need more than just authenticity and content to stand out from the great marketers.

This is what we call the Unique Selling Proposition. It basically answers the question, “why should I buy from you, instead of this other person..??”

Corbett Barr wrote a nice piece on U.S.P’s that I think you should check out. The Ultimate Guide to Finding Your Unique Selling Proposition.

On To You..

Of course, I still hate spammers and scammers – and maybe I’m pushing the envelope too much in this post, but here the question:

What do you think online business would be like without Spammers? Far more competitive? A much nicer place? Speak your thoughts in the comments below..

    Hi Hector,

Sometimes it’s difficult to differentiate scammers and real marketers. People can only know after they made the purchase. Your next point will come into the picture. Having a unique selling proposition will definitely make a difference but provided you already have the trust of your potential customers.

Hey Hector, It makes you think! I believe it could go both ways. Because of all those stupid spammers people will think that your product is another spam. On the other hand its great because it will make harder for them to sell their spam because more people are aware and now they have to trust you before they buy your product.

    Great Post,

    Hey Hector,

I hate spammers as well. I’m sure this is going to a normal response here by all the commentators. There is one thing I’ve learned from spammers…consistent and persistent

When it comes to online marketing you have to adopt both if you want to succeed.

    Hi Hector.

    Excellent post!

I am a big fan of contrast. As has been noted by sages without the darkness there would be no light. If there weren’t spammers and scammers we wouldn’t appreciate the authorities who bring super value to the market.

Thanks for sharing your contrarian take Hector, I like it :)

Yes, Lye.. I completely agree – it’s getting really tough to know exactly because they’re getting really good at scamming. I got an email the other day from “PAYPAL” – they said I had a refund request, so when I clicked on the link, it took me to a paypal replicated site where the freaking scammers were collecting emails & passwords.. it’s CRAZY!

You’re right – Trust is the main factor in this equation

That is definitely a different way to look at spammers! They do make those of us who are doing it right look really good! :)

    Hi Hector,

I agree with you. It makes those who are for real, stand out even more.

Sure it would be a lot less crowded! But because the spammers are so bad, even the brand new, serious marketers look good!

    Great read, thanks Hector!

Albert Einstein might never thought that his theory will be so effectively used in online marketing. You have nicely and effectively apply the relativity theory.

I think you have given a good example that waiting to have 100% perfect product to make money online is not the correct way. Just come up with a relatively better product and start marketing it.

    Hey Hector

This topic is rarely touched. good you discussed it. Spamming and marketing have a very thin line separating them. We need to be extra careful or we will lose our clients.

Great read and highly informative. Will share with others :)

Hey Hector you right the more spammers and scammers the better it is for us, this is what I also say about gay people, the more gays there are the better it is for us, means more girls of course! hahah!

    Nice post buddy!

Sjay.. this is a great point “Just come up with a relatively better product and start marketing it” – trying to be perfect will stop you from taking action – I was guilty of this for a very long time, and still struggle sometimes..

    thanks for sharing

Hector, I love your spin/take on this topic. People often complain that spammers are the reason it’s so hard to get ranked (Google is constantly tweaking algorithms, etc.) While that may be true to an extent, I believe spammers eventually get what’s coming to them and the people who are honest, build overdelivering content will thrive in the long-run. You just have to work hard and stick to it.

This is especially true for people who have sites/blogs about making money online. If you can prove that you are keeping it real and not building hype / scammy info, people often find it refreshing and this helps you stand out. Great topic!
