You need leads, I need leads, We All Need Leads… but in order to get leads you need to attract them. Don’t worry – this article is not about attraction marketing. I’m not about to sit here and preach about how you should be providing massive value to the marketplace because I assume that everyone knows by now, that they SHOULD be doing that…
This is about creating a powerful and irresistible lead magnet that will probably flood your email list with new subscribers – well maybe not FLOOD, but hopefully increase the numbers you’re getting daily.
It’s all about giving them exactly what they want. One thing to keep in mind is that it’s different for every niche market. But here are some types of lead magnets you can use:
- The Special Report (5-15 pages)
- The 6-21 day Video Series (Bootcamp)
- Exclusive Software
- The Free Video
- The Bi-Weekly or Monthly Newsletter
Many marketers make the mistake to think that jsut because their Lead Magnet is FREE – a bunch of people are gonna jump all over them. Keep in mind that they still need to be “sold” because your prospects will be spending their TIME going through the material, and time is very valuable.
Here are some Quick Tips for Crafting The Perfect Lead Magnet
1. It needs to give your prospects results in advanced – The Lead Magnet material is your very first impression with your prospect. (aside from your daily blog posts, which should also be very valuable) So, you need to make it so good that when they actually Take Action, they can see results almost immediately.
2. It needs to DRIVE your prospects further down you rmarketing funnel - This is sorta like the result are creating a good lead magnet because when they get results, they’ll want to learn more ADVANCED material from you rather than the next guy/gal.
3. It needs to build your credibility – This is your time to shine. In this lead magnet training you have to show off as much as possible. (without being arragant) Show them how you can help them by giving them results, but also show them the results you’ve been able to get, and that they now can get themselves.
It also pays to overdeliver on your promises because it just shows you know more than they think you do. They raised their hands when they joined your list – don’t dissapoint them.

Hi Hector,
I especially like your point, “they still need to be “sold” because your prospects will be spending their TIME going through the material, and time is very valuable.” Everybody is offering something so what you offer has to have a unique angle and promise them fast results like you say. Excellent point.

Hi Marcus,
I’m glad you caught that – it’s probably the most important point I made in this post. It’s a big misconception that just because it’s FREE, people will want it… when in actuality, BECAUSE it’s FREE, then people associate LESS VALUE to it..

Hey Hector,
It is great to get leads but you are absolutely right that they need to be driven further down your funnel if you ever want to be profitable. This is exactly why your lead magnet has to be so good that is causes them to take action!
Great article!

Hey Mary,
Absolutely, marketing never stops.. and that’s the point I was trying to make – if you go through Tony Robbins Personal Power Audios, at the end of 30 days he’s already telling you that this is just the beginning of your journey with him.
He wants you to call him, or go to his seminar or get some extra coaching – but he doesn’t assume you’re going to do it so HE TELLS YOU to do it.. The call to action is very important..

Hi Hector,
Your point on the lead magnet adding credibility is spot on. Having your own branded product assures your prospects that you are an authority in this industry.

Hi Jesse,
100% correct.. You can literally brand yourself in every aspect of your business – by having a product (like you said), by having a blog, by having a mentoring program, by engaging in your community and of course, the most important – by providing massive value and actually HELPING PEOPLE..

Hey Hector,
That’s right even though you are providing it for FREE. You still need to market and sell it. For some reason people don’t like to hear the word sell it. If you are a business owner, you can attract all the people in the world over to you. But is you don’t promote with action nobody is going to know what steps needs to be taken.

Josh

Welcome back Josh..
That’s so true.. most people hate the thought that they have to SELL something in business. They feel like they’ll become an annoying salesperson but all it takes is shift in the way they think.
Selling a product, service or opportunity shouldn’t be taken as “you’re taking people’s money” but as “you’re giving them the opportunity to get more advanced levels of value”
..and here’s a wake up call for those facing that issue – if you’re not comfortable enough to “sell” people your FREE lead magnet – you will never feel comfortable “selling” them a paid product or service
thanks for commenting Josh – it brought a lot more value to the table

Hi Hector, I don’t know why so many people recoil when the word “sell” or “sales” comes up, but at the end of the day, if you aren’t selling something, including your brand! — you aren’t putting dollars in your bank account. The road to the sale may be long and there is an art to selling that is being reshaped through social media, but still. All the big leaders in SM sell something that people want to buy. The key word here is “Want.”
Thanks for a terrific post! Your ideas are right on!

Hey Mary..
Glad you stopped by.. – Excellent point “if you aren’t selling something, including your brand! — you aren’t putting dollars in your bank account” Nothing happens in business until SOMETHING IS SOLD.. it could your product, an affiliate product, your business opportunity or service.. anything!
But being in tune with your market, and knowing exactly WHAT they want and WHY they want it will guarantee your success..
Thanks for commenting, I hope to hear your thoughts more often Mary..

Hey Hector,
You’re right, everyone needs to have leads. And how you pull in your target audience is key. What is even more key is how you long you keep those people.
Free tools only bring interest, to ensure there are prospects for the long-haul, you have to continue to deliver.
Well said my friend…

Hello Hector,
First of all thank you for sharing this fantastic post on my tribe wall..
Now you’ve touched some really important stuff here and I agree with you 100%.. Still in my opinion, the first thing we have to constantly work on is leads mindset.. Sometimes ,it happens, that no matter how much time we spend with them, providing them free valuable stuff, they just seem unstable and not determined enough to grab a chance and take action. So, I am really spending much time with my leads working on their right mindset first, than we move on further.
Best regards,
Milena
Milena,
You’re welcome, I’m glad to share it, you have a good active tribe more people should check out.
Now, I agree with you 100%, mindset is definitely something that needs to covered. People’s beliefs can get in the way of their success, BUT, although I strongly believe that we should care about our prospects (without a doubt) – we can’t get caught up with those who just won’t responsibility for their OWN success.
It’s great that you’re doing that though..
take care,
and thanks for stopping by..

I like the way You made it simple and easy to understand. The lead magnet is really Your first impression, so You gotta make it count by showing Your prospect that You’re the one.

Hey Marty..
A true leader will tell you the honest truth – and that is.. I Don’t Know, so that’s what I’m gonna tell you – but the reason I don’t know is because you just have to test it to see what works best.
But maybe this will help out a lot more – I see you’re using getresponse on your blog. With GetResponse you can track your conversion rates. When you’re generating leads with a blog you want to aim for a 2% conversion rate because there is just so many other things getting your visitors attention. On the other hand – on a LEAD CAPTURE PAGE, you want to aim for 20% or higher conversion rate. If you’re getting anything lower than those numbers, start changing the main components – like your offer, your headline, and your sales copy.
Hope that helped..

Hector,
This is so true. There are so many network
marketers that don’t understand the value
and it causes them to get frustrated and in
the end they quit.
If we continue to spread the word, it will
open up this industry to more people and
help us pass this positive message.

I still haven’t decided on how I am going to I am going to generate lead content yet. What first pulled me in was Mike Dillard’s Magnetic Sponsoring boot camp videos and that stuff was gold.
.-= Seth Miller´s last blog ..The Cold Market can be so cold =-.
Hey Seth,
Yes it was.. but you need to remember that Mike Dillard put that together more than 3 years ago.. and although the information is valuable, there are hundreds of other people sharing value way beyond that bootcamp.. (no knock on Mike..)
It’s based on a concept coined by Eben Pagan, called “Moving The Free Line”.. and it’s simply giving away a lot more value for free so you can really stand out of the competition. Thousands or people have read Magnetic Sponsoring and more thousands are aware of the concept of attraction marketing. This is great because we’re growing as a community, but it’s a lot harder for us as individual marketers to get notice IF we stay doing the same old thing..
I hope that helped you even more when you begin crafting your lead magnet..

Hi Hector,
Have a blessed weekend and take care
fantastic post Hector. You are absolutely right when saying that the adjective “free” doesn’t necessarily mean that people are attracted to you. It stills takes them their time which is always a valuable asset. And there’s a lot of free stuff on the internet, even “free gifts”

That’s a great lead magnet. The more value you can provide your visitors and prospects, the more likely they are to join you or buy from you because you’ve already proven yourself to be a leader.
