Going viral is something every online business owner wants, and for good reason – it’s a massive wave of FREE traffic filled with potentially targeted prospects and customers.
Not everyone starts with an advertising budget of $5,000.. most of us have to build up to that number and the best way to do that is by using FREE marketing methods. Viral marketing is one of the quickest ways to reach hundreds and even thousands of people in a short amount of time.
But going viral is no easy task for any business. It takes quite a bit of strategic thinking and creativity to come up with good viral marketing campaign.
We, however, have an advantage – we have our own wordpress blog in our arsenal of marketing weapons, and your blog may be the only thing you need to go viral.
Let me explain..
Viral Marketing Ideas For Bloggers
Blog posts have the ability to go viral, but just like any other viral marketing campaign – they need to be done strategically.
Here are some viral marketing ideas to help you create viral blog posts..
Tip #1. Create a content packed post – Write a post that gives away so much free content that your readers will feel they HAVE to share it with others.
How do you know if it’s chalk-full of value.. well, if you have to come back to it again and again for a refresher, then it’s good. I haven’t done one of these yet but I will soon enough.
Tip #2. Create a Bloggers List post - Writing a post about the bloggers that you regularly visit and get tips and advice from has the potential of going viral. Think about it.. would you link to a post that wrote about you?
Of course you would! So what if you wrote a post about the top 10, 20, 30 bloggers in your industry – don’t you think a good number of those popular bloggers would link back to your post and send their readers to it?
Tip #3. Write a Controversial post – Write a post that brings up a subject that many people in your industry argue about. This can get the juices flowing in your readers and not only get them to comment, but also get them to share your post and talk about it on their own blogs.
Tip #4. Create a Content Contest - Create a contest where you ask your readers to create content either on their blog, or on Youtube and link that content back to your original blog post or Facebook Fan page.
This will create ‘buzz’ around your contest which will ultimately create ‘buzz’ around your blog and/or business.

I am a big fan of FREE marketing; as a matter of fact, I don’t spend a dime for my marketing.
However, going viral is such a subjective thing!
Sometimes you look at a post and think “What? THIS went viral?”. On the other hand, you can be sitting on a wealth of information and nobody seems to want to read it.
I think one of the key ingredients to viral content is… who you know. Your networking circle.
If you get a few big time bloggers RT you content, you are as good as golden.

Great post! I had some accidental luck with a blog post I wrote on Do Follow blogs. I created a badge for everyone who had a do-follow blog to display for free on their blog, letting their readers know and encouraging them to comment. It has become the most popular post on my blog and I’ve been linked to it from other blog owners who are displaying it on their blog and linking back to my post for explanation and so their readers can get their free badge too.
The lesson I learned…give away great stuff and people will link back to it!
